Frequently Asked Questions.
Does the Gin Kit contain alcohol?
No. You will need to purchase a base spirit, which can either be vodka or gin.
How much base spirit is needed?
Either 700mls or 1 litre.
Why has my beverage turned yellow or discoloured?
Juniper does that…. sorry!
What ratio should I use for the different botanicals?
Up to you! The general rule is no more than 30 grams to 1 litre of base spirit. For example, if you use 15 grams of Juniper Berries, use 7 grams of Coriander Seed; then add up to 13 grams of other botanicals as you please. If you chose gin as a base spirit and you want to add more flavour, use additional botanicals and fewer Juniper Berries and Coriander Seeds. The Juniper can be used as a garnish for your drink.
Should I crush the berries prior to putting them in?
Yes. This will speed up the process and bring out more flavour.
Is compound and steeping the same?
Compound gin simply means: steeping your ingredients or botanicals in a neutral grain spirit for a period of time.
How long should I steep/infuse the botanicals?
The minimum recommendation is 24 hours. Like tea, steeping/infusing for a longer duration will increase the flavours. Be careful not to over steep the botanicals by checking often or adding the botanicals separately.
Plastic and alcohol
Always use glass jars or bottles to store your gin.
